2009.03.31 (01:00): To quote Lt. Col. Slade..

"Whooo-ah.."

A bit of apprehension abounds at the moment. In a fit of random humor I notified Mattie of my blog. While on face this isn't a concern - the shit on here is just that.. shit on here. It is public - it *HAS* been public; it was announced on my only social-network site a few dozen times, and so forth. Maybe I assumed one of the 90 plus people across the world that follow my internal monologue were one of them, and now I realize not so much it's... annoying?

Here's the basic graphics I have been using to get the back end code up and running.

screen example

While it's not much visually at the moment there is a butt load of back end code that had to be worked out...

- the user animates when moved.
- there's a map builder that allows me to quickly build unique.. er.. maps.
- item pick up and application works
- there's an enemy that takes damage when attacked by the user.. and drops and item when killed.
- i even have a background animation for 'waving grass'... but that's not shown at the moment.

Obviously this was saved in mspaint (the screen shot).. the graphics are a bit more sharp.

2009.03.26 (17:11): Kudos to middle sister..

Just a random thought I haven't put down to paper yet, but I have to give my middle sister a tip of the hat for her new attitude on the general scope of the family.

2009.03.24 (22:00): Acer H233H

Holy crap! The ol' NEC, while a dear and I adore her much, has just been chucked out for something brighter, bigger, and more sexy! Good bye old reliable, hello new hotness!

Let me expound on this for a bit. The ol' Nec was a multisync 75. That's 17" baby! The manufacture date on the back was March 2001. Wow. How the hell did I use that for all this time? Oh that's right. The prior monitor was a Viewsonic 19" CRT that crapped out on me after a few years (the screen turned pee yellow).

The new hotness is running at 1920x1080.

The new hotness is 23" wide screen HD. I'm not sure how I survived with such limited real estate. Specifically this H233H monitor.

The bastard is bright. It's quick. There are zero dead pixels. The viewing angle (angel? - lullz) kicks ass. I was able to watch 28 Days Later and it was fucking amazing. The Office on Hulu was next. Wow.. Hella great.

The only thing I could complain against is the lack of vertical height adjustment. Oh well. Boo fraking hoo.

It's half the power consumption.

When comparing images on dual screens I about shit myself in terms of what I was looking at just yesterday and what I am looking at now.

I am not sure how I am going to be able to go to work with my two 21" wide screens. Tsk.

2009.03.24 (15:42): New monitor..

I have decided to update the ol' 19" CRT NEC to something a bit more flashy and new. *sigh* What the hell am I going to use for a shelf now?

2009.03.23 (13:44): Falloutboy status update..

Category: Work
Posted by: modi123
FYI, for you all out there reading this through your series of tubez, Falloutboy is still in the office. You might remember the months (circa July to about the early part of December) of sporadic comments such as "Once I get that check I am outa here", or "I am blowing this popsicle stand once the check and the check and my diploma are in hand", "Game over man! Fuck this place I am outta here when I get my diploma" and so forth.

His eyes were full and bright for the future. Ready to milk what ever company teet he latched on to.

He assured me that he wouldn't be here past the middle of January. He also promised he wouldn't surely be here for the district meeting... and yet there he sits. I can see his reflection in his door glass as he gives me the finger.

Sure.. he said he *looked* for jobs, but constantly makes up excuses to not leave.

I wonder how long he will kick it here... letting that precious MBA molder.

2009.03.23 (10:47): Disturbing news?

My youngest sibling just called to tell me she is engaged as of this morning.

Hmm...

I guess the wedding is planned for a year from October.

I am unsure on my response to this.

Minor update:
Not to be undone by previous comments my middle sister's response was "at least you're not living in total sin!".

2009.03.22 (02:07): Tired..

When does "doing what makes sense to you" become a flawed plan? I wonder some days.

Bleh!

Sick still? This blows. Come Monday I am going to zerg-rush that roomie of mine.

Thankfully I am well enough to gimp over to this couple's house to talk about what they want me to do as the official for their wedding. So this means I will have been: groomsman, best man, head usher, associate usher, and soon officiant for weddings! Huzzah!

2009.03.19 (22:10): XNA... KPS: the RPG

Category: Projects

I made a bit of head way.. I have my basic map builder done... well for the background tiles and writing it to xml (and loading it back).

I have to get a new xml grid for the items.. a grid for the enemies (and enemy properties).. and the integrating this load of a map to the game itself.

2009.03.19 (10:24): Really probie?

Category: General
Posted by: modi123
I am laid up in my crib sick and annoyed. It might be the illness speaking, but I am fairly certain Probie caused it. Too many days of him sitting there rattling phlegm around in our joint office to *not* be the cause.

The question remains - do I risk catastrophic failure and drive to State Debate, in Kearney, on Friday night so I can judge rounds on Saturday or not. Peoples were imploring me to do so.

Indeed I braved amateur night and went out to the 'Box for some green beer. The place was fairly busy, and I pulled up a seat next to Darrel at the short side of the bar. Chris and Jen P were tending bar... Court-naaaaaaaaaay and new girl were waiting tables.

2009.03.17 (16:45): Stupid move..

Last night I ended up breaking my computer chair after performing, what some observers were calling a "half retarded circus bear" maneuver. Damn CD book was just out of reach and I had only the tip of my finger on it. Suddenly the room shifted and *crash* *bam* *boom*.

Ug. Well the chair had a good three years of existence. Just another damn thing that i need to get before I get my sweet sweet zune.

I might have to get a jump start and start whipping up some games for my Zune-to-be.

Side note, my spam blocker takes a rolling seven day snapshot of things turned away.. the current period shows only 266 (versus the 1800 or so when I started). Damn.

2009.03.17 (10:46): GT should be out by now..

I believe she was let out of the pokie this morning. When I am not sure.

Hopefully she has stellar tales from the joint.

I am thinking about getting a Zune. A 120gig seems just plumb ridiculous... but then again the 30gb ones are no longer to be seen.

Hmm.. Gigabeat has had a lively three years and deserves a rest.

Maybe I can snag a 30gig off one of my forums for sub $100.

2009.03.15 (14:13): Yeppie ki-yay...

I swear I am turning into to "that old codger" on the debate judging circuit. The arguments out of the gate just reek of fail... Sure.. let's run "capitalism bad kritik" where the alternative is to 'do nothing.. wait for the economy to crash.. and the seamless transition to liberal socialism or anarchy to rise up'... and a dis-ad that claims 'doing plan pisses off the WTO... the WTO knee jerk reacts causing economic downturn and collapse.. economic collapse causes global nuclear war'.

WHAT?! So by voting for the K I get what ever benefit comes with 'liberal socialism' or 'anarchy' but I also get the baggage of thermal nuclear war. Damn. Guess that's bad.

It was nice seeing the old timers there... Fox, Lord Nelson (and his wife), McKibbon, Mad Brad, VomitBoy, and the like. There even was a round I judged with Goodbrake and Dana. Millard North represent!

In the end I got my fist full of checks and sauntered off into the night; a bit perplex at the quality and trying to see if it's just my perception of the good old days that was tainted.

The evening capped with a declined invitation to a strip club with Hef, and an hour long chat with Debbie-deb about what has happened in the last month and a half since I last saw her.

Getting home I shelled out on the couch watching Japanese anime on cartoon network. The three shows didn't make sense.

I need to bang out some code for KPS the RPG before hitting the gym.

L1 is now part owner of the SkyyBox, or so the information tells me. This should be interesting.

Stace was claiming he was going to get the other half and build an opulent palace for drinking.

I laughed, and then fell back into my moderately lost and mildly despondent zone that characterized my mood last night.

I have been having strange dreams the last two nights.

On an irrelevant note, my Hawaii buddy is coming in to town the last part of the month and staying for a week. Fun.

I am more or less back on board with my KPS the RPG. (Think top down zelda style game over lay for a purchasing system).

Depending what happens this evening I will have some of the non check off items done.

Yeppie.

Major miles stones
-x- background
-x- -- background test animation
-x- user sprite
-x- -- movement
-x- -- minor animation
-x- -- stat reporting
-x- items (attack bonus, defense bonus, bombs)
-x- item pickup
-x- enemy class fleshed out
-x- functional font based dashboard
-- attack

When I get the last of these things prototyped I will dump the class outlines and demo out on my page.

2009.03.06 (07:13): District meeting day 1

Category: Work

It wasn't bad though I should have gotten more than four hours of sleep to tide me over. The afternoon sessions were killing me. Not much was learned. Jefe's presentation was interesting. I wish she would actually *follow* some of those bullet points. So it goes

Today is sessions in the morning and the long haul talks in the afternoon.. followed by a dinner. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.

Oh... I am too big for gokarts any more. Boooooooo!

I think my liver wanted to check out last night. Too much free booze.
