30/03: Weekend recap...
Wow.. this weekend just whizzed by. Let's recap all the joys of it.
Topics covered:
- 'Monsters vs Aliens'
- Me the circus bear
- KPS: the rpg
- GT necking Dallas at the bar
- Impending arrival of Hawaii
- 'Monsters vs Aliens'
I ended up seeing this with Tad on a complete whim Friday night. I was sitting at home, listening to Def Leppard's greatest hits, and re structuring my video game's code (more on that below) when I got the text message about the movie. Nothing else was shaking so I headed out. A good film. A great cast.. quick paced.. and a healthy message about self identity.
I wandered out into the night and decided to see what was crack-a-lackin up at the 'Box. I wandered into a sheer madhouse of activity. Paulie teaching GT the nature of Texas Hold'm (why I am never certain), GT being fairly snookered, and the grip of people milling around.
End game was I had my token three drinks (it was late), and ended up pouring GT out on her parents' porch.
- Me the circus bear
Moving into Saturday I was gearing up for a fairly benign day. I had some cleaning to get done, but that was derailed by Bruce calling me up and wanting 'to chat'. He was psyched that he got me to read a book he 'totally knew about two years ago' (that would be "the Average American Male" which I gave Mattie for his Bday). He hemmed and hawed, but eventually instructed me to come over. He then bemoaned the fact he had a date and wasn't sure where to take her. I sighed loudly and rattled off the usual places: bars, restaurants, arcades, museums, zoos, and bowling.
I guess he opted for bowling (there's food there too so no need for dinner, right?), and then I got the call about 7 or so with him asking what was up. I inquired if he was still with his date, to which he affirmed, then repeated his question about what is up. I was a bit puzzled. Was this a phone call conversation that was for show or for real? It turned out for real. He also asked me the dumbest question "We want to get a drink - do you know any good bars for that?". Duh.. The Skyybox or the Eclipse.
The 'Box was chosen (they have a pool table) and some how I ended up beating them there. I told Bruce that I would leave in ten minutes, he countered with he would leave in fifteen, so I left in thirty. I was already down a Capt'n-an-Coke and halfway through a conversation with Cort's husband Matt and Dallas about their weekend excursion. Bruce and Date walked through the door and were patiently waiting at my shoulder. All I could say was "find a table I'll be there in a sec". I am mildly annoyed at Bruce's perpetual desire to treat going to the bar, let alone MY bar, as he has never been to one. After flipping through the pictures of Matt and Dallas climbing trees in the wild I plopped down at Bruce's table.
Here we go. I am well aware my function as the third wheel was to be the circus bear to entertain... the coffee table book to amuse.. and to facilitate conversation. I believe I did this well and with liberal amount of libations.
The pinnacle (or perhaps nadir) was when Bruce was off peeing Date asked me how to tell if my buddy was in to her. I shrugged and said I will ask him when he gets back. Apparently Date was alarmed by my approach and went to hit the head while Bruce was back. So I told him Date was in to him and was he into her? He affirmed. It's like passing notes in third grade: "do you like me? check yes or no". Regardless the evening came to a close and I guess both parties were satisfied. I meandered over to the Eclipse and had a good chat with Tim the Cop and Scott/Sharron over my evening and strong desire to own a ball pit.
- KPS: the rpg
I reworked the XML save/load for the game to be a bit more effective and robust. Cheers to that.
I also have opted for a third project in my solution (one being to the game itself and one to the map builder currently) to house all my constants and similar functions. It's good to get that done up front and in one spot. Huzzah for fore planning.
Once the common location for my overly used functions is built I need to start working movement-prohibitive-tiles.. ie.. a giant tree (or stand of trees) means you cannot enter that tile.
Post that I'll probably look into map knitting (knit knit knit while taking a shit... lol).. so one map transitions to another.
- GT necking Dallas at the bar
Last night.. 11.31 Anna runs around the bar and whips Court twice with a towel. Court protests such treatment (thinking it was about doing dishes). No.. it was about GT and Dallas necking at the bar. I laughed because call I could hear was the song in Clerks 2 called 'necking on the swing'. I laughed.
About ten minutes later the music was dying down and it got sorta quiet. GT then realized everyone was watching and turned a few shades of red. I laughed even louder.
- Impending arrival of Hawaii
Indeed the long lost friend is getting in from Hawaii tomorrow. I would be amused if we do get snow. Remember this stuff, or has your two years off the main land made the memory fuzzy?
My concern is that I believe there may be decent among the ranks of the three sisters. I get this spidy tingle that when I was getting text from the oldest, keeping me abreast (*snicker*... breast) of the going ons, and I asked if the youngest was informed, then informed the youngest to whit she told me 'no one contacted her'. Hmm. I might have just started a family brawl. Thank god my camera's charged up!
