2008.12.31 (11:04): Legal Lunch yesterday!

Category: Work
Posted by: modi123
My team of legal eagle experts (and one hyper active addition) had lunch with me for my birthday. It was an enjoyable experience (isn’t it always?) with only minor concerns that Mary has developed an almost unhealthy sounding obsession with some mafia game. Thirty some odd confirmed kills, giant guns, a growing "family", and bulking up on defensive points. Hmmm. On the other hand the game seems to help her take out the general anger and displeasure for humanity the law profession forces her to accrue.
Lunch was quaint with the usual bevy of information, and Mary snagging my meal for my birthday (thanks Mary!).

The general concern was Travis’s car needs to be watched while out of town and perhaps his dog too. Both were denied as attempts to thieve his Silver Bullet for reckless driving rampages. Good show ol’ boy.. good show.

Work news – nothing too report. We are treading water as DK is trying to fix this “dead lock” issue. We have “20 more days until full testing starts”… twenty from when? All I know is I have two work item (bugs) that are probably already fixed, but until we do a move (promised for two and a half weeks and it hasn’t happened yet!) I cannot be sure.

Dan the Merc is leaving. I am sad. He is head and shoulders above the other mercs. Perhaps we should chain him to his desk? I am sure his wife and the police would not come looking for him at his last known work location.

Happy new year everyone!

I had a fairly vivid dream of flying last night. I cannot recall ever having one. This is not to say that I was flying along the clouds, but actually flying fifteen or twenty feet off the ground through a parking lot and into some trees. It was strange. I vaugely remember having superman-ish powers and being warned that the turn of the year they disappear when the calander flips. I am curious what brought this dream on.

2008.12.29 (20:31): Happy Birthday to me...

Indeed.

2008.12.28 (01:53): Pink bowl...

Category: General
Posted by: modi123
Coming down the street parallel to Maple, six feet east of the intersection for my apartment, is a run off drain. A few feet north of said run off drain has appeared a large pink mixing bowl filled with cat food. I was coming down the street today and noticed a black cat eating from said bowl that quickly disappeared into the drain when my car approached.

I begin to wonder and ponder about the meaning of the bowl. Did some richers put it there to feed this cat? To feed wildlife at this quasi busy intersection? Was their cat living in the drain?

I am unsure if there is a metaphor to be teased out and applied to my life, but I think there might be.

2008.12.27 (13:14): Oh, don't worry..

Bubbi came back fine to me yesterday afternoon. It turned out I was in the right area, but did not get the right problem. A belt tensioner ball bearing died. That coupled with and oil change put it about two hundred.

Don't fear Mary - Travis will have a functioning mode of transportation for his libations.

2008.12.26 (09:25): Oh Bubbi..

Category: General
Posted by: modi123
Over the last two days Bubbi has developed a serious raspy whine from the crank-shaftial-region. I was hoping it was just a bit of grim or the cold weather acting adversely on her... I guess the cold weather part is right, but my suspicions are a burned out bearing and/or cracked front oil seal. Shit.. fuck.. cheap in parts, heavy on the labor.

I was a bit annoyed my main auto shop was filled up to monday, so I opted for a place closer to my apartment. By and by I was forced to saunter home - a two mile hike in fog, puddle filled streets, and wet snow packed side walks. The only major concern.. well two concerns was: 1. double crossing 156th and maple to get to the south west corner, and 2. the access road parallel to Maple which tends to attract speedsters and morons. The latter wasn't too bad - I figure the morons and speedy kids driving down that were not up at 8.30 in the morning. Maple street was a bit daunting with having to hike up the ol' pant legs and jump over oily puddles and black snow. Either way I was home jiggity jig in thirty minutes.

Now off to clean my harddrive, do some laundry, some dishes, and install mah-videogame.

2008.12.24 (08:43): Mercs and magic..

Category: Work
Posted by: modi123
I drag my ass to work today... we have a half day and for some reason I am required to drive down town when I could have easily rolled my ass out of bed, shuffled four feet, and worked from home in my undies. *sigh* So much for quasi non traditional work attire.

I get to work, narrowly get hit by some moron running lights like it's still slick outside, and wonder if my beef jerky and soda will fit for Christmas Eve breakfast or do I need something more meaningful?

I continue to hum The Flys' "Got you where I want you" into my office when I notice an email from our mercs (over seas mercs - not to be confused with mercs ten feet away from me). It's a holiday card. Wonderful. I open it up and this is the message "May the magic of the season cast a charm of joy... on your life!". Here would be the series of reactions:

1. Wow.. really? Magic and christmas?
2. Magic is a douchebag game.
3. I may be a bit rusty on my d&d lore, but the charm spell doesn't cause joy - it causes things to like you.

Arg.

On a irrelevant note my secret santa gift has not arrived in the mail yet from one of my forums. If I get stiffed on this one then I will be sorely pissed.

http://www.childsplaycharity.org/

It's a worthy cause as noted in their mission statement:

Since 2003, over 100,000 gamers worldwide have banded together through Child’s Play, a community based charity grown and nurtured from the game culture and industry. Over 3.5 million dollars in donations of toys, games, books and cash for sick kids in children’s hospitals across North America and the world have been collected since our inception.

You can either donate money directly or click a hospital near you and see what is on their 'amazon wish list' and buy/send it to them directly. It operates like a gift registry, but not to snooty people getting married.. to sick kids!

2008.12.21 (14:25): The cold..

I have finally broken down and got window insulation film for my windows. I am not sure if it will keep the zombies out, but previous years it kept my joint a bit warmer than normal. These dbag recessed windows sans trim make it difficult to apply tape...

On a side note this bone chilling weather will definitely keep zombies movement down. Being their body does not circulate fluid like a non zombie their joints should freeze up nicely.

Always look for the silver lining!

Now I must bid adieu - I have to sit around playing a video game from 1996 (red alert - thanks EA for the free iso downloads!) and wager if going to the gym may incur frost bite.

On a side note if anyone needs to contact me the main page (Wangnet.org) has a nice 'contact' button on the top right.

2008.12.18 (10:50): Ice storm? Thunder snow?

Category: General

The city has been warned for the last day or two about a pending ice storm rolling through the area today and tonight. The weather channel has it some what starting at 1 pm then ramping up the chance of ice at 5pm and progressively getting worse as the night wears on.

Me thinks I might head home and work from home a bit early today.

Screw the ice!

Lo, Gawd doth spoke to Zebedius, begot of Jacob, begot of Larry, half sister to Gina of Jersey, and second cousin to Tim the Retard. "Does not thee see my pimp hand half raised? Doth ye not knoweth when my pimp hand is fully raised there is only one way it comes down?".

Zebedius, having just arisen from restless slumber next to a savage on the cold shores of Lake Titicaca, responded "Bra, do you know what time-eth it is?".

Gawd thus responded "Repent now before it is too late and you get five across the eye!"

Zebedius inquired to Gawd, "Art thou joking?".

Gawd was displeased and totally put that bitch back into pocket. He put him into pocket so hard that Zebedius children's children could not pop their collars and thus were banished from the sweet clubs for three generations. Life was lame.

If everyone remembers - Back on 2008.09.12 I won a case of 'Hint Water' via thebachelorguy.com. I know I promised a review, and sometime mid to late October my case came in. I opted for tropical punch figuring that sounded safer than say cucumber.

Let's see how the case faired after the jump.

Falloutboy's prediction was a bust as far as repremands and what not. That's good. I guess we have a move happening "right now"... thought I doubt it.

*shrug* off to do more testing!

2008.12.09 (09:16): Storm predicted?

We have (by we I mean DK and Jefe) have been planning a code move to the test server for about three weeks now. By plan I mean they were telling us, about once every two days, that today was the move and it would happen at noon. Noon would come and go and no move occured. There wasn't an email, a stop by, or anything communicative. Nothing.

Let's follow the journay after the link.

2008.12.08 (08:59): Comment of the weekend..

Category: General
Posted by: modi123
This weekend was the Millard West debate tournament. Suffice to say I was there (as I have been for the last fourteen years), and there were a few amusing things running around.

First was the number of old timers that showed up. Seriously? Gibson? Just happened to be wandering through town? Ha! McKibben - wow! The MW tab team described him as a short, bald, pirate looking like guy. Spot on! Let's not forget Mad Brad... he always seems super stoked about things.

Second, the comment. This is comign from the MW coach, Fred, himself. I was across the library slumped on a couch reading more Grimm's Fairy tales when I see Fred halfway in the door hollar at the kids at the tab table "Hey everyone - less talk about communism and more running!". Stellar comment Fred.

Third, Fred started up the Socrates awards again, after an extended hiatus since he left Fremont High. Damnit I didn't win! I should have gotten one the last year he did it... I should have gotten one this year! It is the only award I covet more than my Ulrich Award. I could retire a happy man.

2008.12.04 (11:17): Quote of the day!

From a friend of mine: "it's very horrible this pregnant business".

I lolled, rofled, and lmaoplaned for a solid five minutes!

Double gold star for you!

It was followed up by:
"I've been watching people give birth on youtube and boy is it ugly. So that's it highly unpleasant stuff."

2008.12.02 (20:56): A good day..

It seems that today I did good. I know that because neither Jefe or DK came in to doll out negative reinforcement. I got a butt load of work done, spent about ten and a half hours at work, and have only minor clean up tomorrow. Yeppie.

Falloutboy's comment of the morning: "it is nice that after the long weekend, jefe was unable to make it here by 9:00". God I about peed myself!

On other notes and quotes for the holiday weekend "'Liar liar pants on fire' defense", "Holy shit you can hack WEP encryption like nothing!", and "Let's go to the Black Friday sale at the comic book store!".
