We have (by we I mean DK and Jefe) have been planning a code move to the test server for about three weeks now. By plan I mean they were telling us, about once every two days, that today was the move and it would happen at noon. Noon would come and go and no move occured. There wasn't an email, a stop by, or anything communicative. Nothing.

Let's follow the journay after the link.

Yesterday's standup meeting started with the strong resolve that indeed noon there would be a move. Then Jefe pipped up "no 2pm!". DK accepted, and we were told to get ready. Somewhere about twoish we were told to get our database objects ready and scripted out. Then it became "don't do anything yet!". Then the story changed that we would do a move the next morning (today), because the testing team would be done with the data (they were using it in a meeting), and we could just update their database environment from ours. The push was on to delete anything that was not being used (so it would be as good of a move as possible). Fair enough.

I was blithly checking and dropping old stored procedures when I had to make a minor code change. No big deal - the move was next morning, right? Then there was a cryptic email from Jefe with only the subject line "getting the latest version". No subject, just a title. Ah, what? I sent an email asking why she was doing that an announcing it to everyone when the move was tomorrow. My minor fear is she was doing a move right then. She sends back an email "No we are doing it now. Who said that [we were moving tomorrow morning]?" Holy shit! I check in my change, hollar at falloutboy, and jump to Jefe's office telling her to hold up for a sec so people can get a day's worth of work checked in. Jefe and DK looked shocked and somewhat pissed that I would have to gaul to hold up their move - a move no one knew about - with damn changes! Wow.. Very icy stares from both of them forced me back to my office. This was happening all about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

Code was checked in, they updated the testers' database environment (ie wiping it all out), but have not moved any code. Hmm.. Strange.

Falloutboy seems to think we are in for a yelling during the standup meeeting in four minutes for holding up the move. I hope not, but it would not suprise me if we did. Damn us for not being able to read minds, predict shifting time frames, and having changes that need to be made to code!

On a side note DK indicated we have "20 more days left"... left of what I am not sure... new code? database changes? bug fixes? testing? Strange.
