2009.08.28 (15:50): Highlight of my day..

Category: Work

I just witnessed the high light of my day.. I was outside when I noticed a small bat crawling down the corner of our building. It then flittered around to find a decent resting spot. I wanted to catch it to be our team pet and show Jefe. Sadly it was too high up.

I also had a particularly disturbing dream about work.. more specifically the elevator... while the buttons only said 1,2,3, and 7 I was riding it up to the 7th and the elevator tilted at a 45 degree angle and swung around in a free fall. I woke at impact... it was 5.22 in the morning. Annoying.

Falloutboy might rage against bloopers. Not only was today gearing up to a six hour work day but most of the day (when bloopers WAS here) falloutboy could hear him clickity clacking on his phone texting, giggling, and no keyboard typing.

Yesterday was a shy over six hours here for Bloopers. Last Friday was shy under six and a half. I was going to mention something to Jefe or DK, but frankly I think Falloutboy's soon to be explosion might be a bit more interesting and keep me out of it. Falloutboy will probably go to DK.. fallout boy will go back to his office.. and then DK will come in and admonish bloopers for not working what he gets paid.

*sigh*

2009.08.27 (09:26): Email tangent..

Lifted from an email I wrote.. WTF is up with this?

Since then I took a trip into the heart of the Peruvian jungle searching for a rumored relic the Company wanted to obtain. It was initially fun, and when my guide Explosivo and I headed out on an old batter jeep it was supposed to be an in and out operation. After the first few days of Explosivo talking non stop about his love with ''boom boom" it was beginning to gripe on my teet. Then we hit a fairly rough patch of natives up a mountain pass after blatantly ignoring the freshly carved statues to what appear to be ancient mayan gods (hey the instruction book put together by the team back at home office said to!). It seems the incessant prattle of Explosivo regarding his 'two favorite things: boom and boom, and you put them together to make boom-boom' was really pissing off the locals. I found him dead in the truck one morning by what appeared to be stab wounds from a snake. Odd. With my guide dead, the natives on my tail, I hiked it back to the extraction point empty handed. I think we carpet bombed the area and sent a team in to mop up afterwords. I hope we got our relic.

2009.08.25 (17:55): Nutrition store high..

Last Thursday I got a bee in my bonnet about my alleged lack of nutritious omega-3 fatty acids in my diet. As in non. Zero. Nada. I am a big hater on fish and refuse to regularly eat it. On occasion I can be conned into a nice Tilapia (the mutt fish of the fish world) or some salmon, but that is rare.

Fish just smell too much like fish... and my dog's breath smells like dog food. Yeah.. big whoop.

So After poking around it seems 2-4grams of omega 3 is recommended. Cool. Wait.. most dbag stores sell them in 300 milligram capsules - oh hell no. GNC has what I need for cheaper and less fucked up dose levels.

Rock on, or so I thought. Holy shit this stuff is great! It's like I cleared out the cobwebs in the ol' brain. I am thinking clearer.. more focused.. less of the annoying spiking pain from a hang over, and I feel better after going to the gym and busting my balls.

As long as I am taking them before I eat something it's all good to keep the potential halitosis down.

So this is what I have been missing after I have dropped off on the fish eating? Nice. I'll have another

2009.08.21 (15:06): Vinyl toys..

I have a moderately strong urge to make my own resin/vinyl toys. Clearly I do not have the sculpting board tools (damn you carpentry!), and I was never good at slicing foam; so I think I might use some sort of clay. I hear Sculpey is good stuff... hmmm...

Thankfully it appears dickblick has the: sculpey for the figure, silicone for the mold, the resin for the casting. I am moderately concerned about having resin and what not in an apartment. hmmm....

Another project for another day.

2009.08.20 (13:13): No lost irony...

Our databases for testing are offline today and so we are cleaning up documents, updating them, filing them, and so forth. I laugh heartily at two documents: tips and tricks, and best practices. I foggily remember meetings years ago about how we are to fill up these both with respective nuggets of knowledge and make the world a better place.

Yeah.

Not so much.

Both documents have two headings: VB code and SQL. Under each are one lonely, empty, bullet point. I laughed, then checked the creation date for the files. November 2007.. I laughed more. I am unsure if this setup is something indicative of our team or being busy.

2009.08.19 (00:26): What a day...

Today was quite eventful. Someone's bday with a whole gaggle/herd/murder of legal lunchies and buddies for a mutual friend. I was only moderately late back to work so I stayed quite a bit past everyone else.

I spent my time figuring out this error is not from our code and also a tracker program for peoples status changes on our in-department instant messenger. No more worrying about when did so and so leave for lunch... or on a break... or got to work.. or left work. It passively collects their changes on on my active connection.

I am such the smarty pants nerd. Huzzah!

2009.08.17 (11:52): Candlebox!

Candlebox was pretty damn fun. Another $20 show that went full speed on kicking ass. Martin sounded great, was *everywhere* giving out high fives, hand shakes, autographs (on boobies! hahaha) on the window ledge to the bar, and back again. Just a really really fun time. Everyone was in the groove and were pretty damn in sync when asked to yell lyrics.

I thought the compilation of bands who were *their* inspiration was nice: The Who, Black Sabbath (Crazy Train), ACDC, and The Doors.

Of course the impromptu drink pounding with Carlos for the hour after wards tended to push home the enjoyable Friday.

Side note - this weekend at Film Streams is the 'Secret of NIMH'. Later is Pee Wee's Big Adventure and the Iron Giant. Nice. Now the question is do I roll NIMH alone or make someone go? Ha!

I am sitting here sifting through lines and lines of SQL code... looking to optimize the bastards procedures with mild success. I am fairly certain I will be going to Candlebox Friday at the WhiskyRoad House.. again alone... but so far work looks promising in that I will be going and not worrying about this roll out to production. Yeppie.

More after the jump..

Okay.. I am waiting for this damn chunk of code to hit this break point - it locks up the system for about four minutes - and to fill the time I have been sifting through the horror and geekery sections of Etsy.

Damn you C. Love for introducing me to strange hand crafted items!

2009.08.04 (14:55): Legal Lunch update..

Category: General
Posted by: modi123
Yeah, I am running a bit behind - work has been a bear with this project wrapping up.

A few days before the Toad the Wet Sprocket concert it was legal lunch day. A traditional mexican cuisine was the fair today. The usual suspects were there with a new face (there *always* seems to be a new face at legal lunch). The guy who tried to eat my meal the last time was not in attendance. This saddened me - I wanted someone to cut up my lunch for me. Ha-haaaaaaa!

I was moderately concerned that my Biggest Fan did not mention her WoW character. I wondered if it didn't survive a raid or something. Perhaps the account was deleted after she got to the edge of the world and stared in to the abyss. Who knows.

Susan neglected to bring her triathlon trophy. She said she didn't finish last, but from what it sounds like she didn't finish first either. Booooo. I wondered perhaps this was a wii adventure. I mean, really. Trophy or it didn't happen. I kid... I kid. I saw some alleged pictures and that has satisfied my query.

Ah.. legal lunch.. the usual highlight of my work week.

The rumor is our 'town hall meeting' is a platform to announce all internal development ceasing and all developers become helpdesk or system analysts. The actual writing of code would go to interns, new hires, and consultants.

Ah.. what? I say the sky is *not* falling and people up the scale would have a bit more sense than that.

We'll see.

Indeed - the world was aligned against me but I made the concert. See, work has been grinding my life away with this 'we are going live' business. My team seems to have a large issue trying to get things shuffled around the servers as well. About 3.30 or so DK informs me I need to move to an upper echelon server. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, right?

I bust my hump and get my half (Sticks was running the rest) done and bolt at 4.50 with a slight sense of urgency I bolt for the door.
