03/08: Toad the Wet Sprocket..
Indeed - the world was aligned against me but I made the concert. See, work has been grinding my life away with this 'we are going live' business. My team seems to have a large issue trying to get things shuffled around the servers as well. About 3.30 or so DK informs me I need to move to an upper echelon server. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, right?
I bust my hump and get my half (Sticks was running the rest) done and bolt at 4.50 with a slight sense of urgency I bolt for the door.
Trying to not violate the speed laws in Bubbi I finish up my errands for the early evening and head eastwards towards the river.
Traffic was moderately busy, and I had errands to run. I squeal into the parking lot making good time. After checking my person for any of the usual deterrents for entrance into a concert I hoof it over to the gates fearing I would get boned on a space to stand or sit. Wow.. a bit wrong there.
The crowd was defiantly a bit older than me. It seems Toad the Wet Sprocket (TtWS) has been around since 1984. Well shit. Everyone had their collapsible chairs, so I pulled up a bit of grass on the incline and drank some beers.
As luck would have it my buddys' cousin and wife were meandering through the crowd. Hmm.. they were a bit shocked but posted up their chairs next to me. Sweet - they could save my grass seat and we can chit chat while Willie Porter was up doing his thing.
The start of the evening was unbearably humid and hot. Occasionally a breeze would filter through, but damn. Really? I noticed the clouds were coming in fast and dark.. a few drops of rain and the front blew through. Oh my lord what a relief. The humidity was gone, the breeze was up, and it was a stellar night!
After Willie Porter played I head up the ramp for beer and heard someone yelling my name. OMG what did my eye see? One of my bosses was flagging me down. What a small world.
We stepped out of the main flow and chatted about bands and what not.
We parted and I found my grass pad.
The band was fun and sounded great! They played all the right songs, a few rarer tracks, and made a comment about the World Herald's article siting the band broke up 11 years ago that day.. which they didn't.. so TtWS opted to celebrate their non breakup. That was hilarious.
Over all a good show. No big rush just a relaxing evening of great music.
Now here's to me hoping to get to Candlebox
