2010.04.30 (20:07): Ur doing it wrong?

Okay.. this is starting to freak me out a bit...

After switching to a more salad centric lunch (by that I mean I will opt for the premade salads at work for lunch more so than a burger and fries or a tasty ruben) I noticed they days I have a salad I tend to maintain a decent level of energy during the rest of the afternoon versus stumbling out of work on days I don't. It's odd.. I catch myself driving home and thinking "damn.. I don't feel too bad today!". WTF.. does this mean salads and a bit of chicken in said greens is a good thing for me?

The second oddity is I hit the gym today (the 11ish hour day yesterday killed my desire to do much of anything besides watch Fringe back episodes)... and mounted that damn treadmill again. This time a bit faster pace... so my mile I power walked took about nineteen minutes.. now get this.. I get off it.. right myself from the treadmill-vertigo and feel good... not great but good. wtf on this shit as well. Damn extended cardio is *good* for me?!

http://digg.com/microsoft/Microsoft_confirms_kills_Courier_in_one_fell_swoop

Microsoft killed the courier... well not so much killed as they incubation period for the team was up and the specs given didn't match the deliverable. The team will be broken up and resources reallocated.

I am sad. This was to be the tech to make my life complete.. or at least tie a room together.

2010.04.29 (15:13): Quote of the day...

Category: Work
Posted by: modi123
I was outside bitching about the intermittent slow down in our network, and a super pissy user who thinks the problem is related to our system and flat out disbelieves it when I told him other systems were having issues.

So the guys outside were bitching about our admin-ish folk. When revealing the link that the head of this admin-clan was the mother of a systems admin here there was much discussion on the relative age of both parties. Falloutboy pipped up "what if they are lying about family relationship for some reason?". The other guy immediately responded "Why would the daughter lie about that? It would be like claiming Hitler was your relative!".

Hilter jokes - always funny.

2010.04.28 (08:49): Hungover and angry...

I drug my ass out of bed and got to work relatively on time today. That's good. Then as I walked in the door and looked at my white board I am angry at Meeting?s all over again for being such a dipweed.

Did I seriously spend half my day yesterday tracking down an error he put in a long time ago because he can't do basic comp sci level math?

When you are looking for a percentage... and this is your formula..
a - b * 100 / b
.. and your numbers are in the nine-hundred-thousands level of places... maybe.. just maybe something might be wrong?

Side note for the mathematically forgetful, the order of operations are multiplication and division is done first.. left to right.. then addition and subtraction left to right.

So his statement above would evaluate as the following (the inner most parens get done first then work out:
a-[(b*100)/b]

What he wanted was:
[(a-b)/b]*100

So Meeting? didn't just bungle the ordering he totally f'd it up. He's been "let go" for almost a year and still his code is kicking us in the nuts.

Nerd rage!

Well today was a mild success at work... satiating apprehensions for our tester... fixing issues left and right.. getting DK riled up against Jefe... and finding Mark's word is being degraded by his allegiance to Jefe. After a busy work day of success I ran and got the new Hole album. Fucking fan-tastic. I heard some of these tunes for the last few years on C.Love's myspace page and it's like finding an old friend.

From there I opted for glow stick necklaces.. yeah... when I showed up at the Island it was seven women orgasming because I rock it Skateland style'... Nope.. no action was taken regarding any sort of reckless plans. Suffice to say shit will continue unabated. Needless to say I am hammered now... Em was dancing/singing her buns off and the night passed. I couldn't judge if any sort of appreciation for me was different from those around her. I guess Reel Big Fish was right.. 'a little doubt' goes a long way.

Regardless I had to cut myself off and swing towards home. I had to update AIJane's cd listing for the new Hole CD... and work myself into mild drunken morass over Hole's "Letter to God".

Woot.

Enough "Dawson's Creek" fanfic. Time to pass the fuck out and get to work to crack some issues tomorrow. Rockstar game face fo' sho.

"I never wanted to be the person you see.. can you tell me who I am?" - "Letter to God' - Hole

Holy crap! Brumm is having a kid! Well not him personally but his wife-dearest. What has this world come to? I'm freaking out maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! Freaking out!

(not really.. it's just a shock.. one of these days my system will be able to cope with such news stories and not take twelve hours to catchup).

2010.04.25 (10:45): Damn man...

I really gotta stop posting emo shit on Facebook. That was mildly embarrassing.

On the positive note dinner is planned with the Doctor and his wife. I wonder where we will go? Somewhere nostalgic like Romeos?

Legal lunch on free pie Wednesdays is always amusing. I a giant table of folk I have a tangential connection with discussing the gossip and intricacies of their days. It's always good for a laugh, and even more so when the brief fifteen seconds of attention is focused on me. The inevitable shiny monkey appears and the focus is again on some case or judge the quorum is in contention with. A satisfying adventure to say the least as far as people-watching lunch goes. It breaks the tedium of attempting to have a sane conversation with Ubergeek and my office spouse at the cafeteria.

2010.04.12 (15:21): Oh.. even better quote..

here

"In introducing the iPad, Apple presented it as an omnibus device for consuming all major forms of digital content. If the iPod touch was a television, the iPad is a movie theater. Yes, the content is more or less the same, but the experience is different. "

"Courier presents a digital reinvention of the scrapbook. "

Oh you silly engadget folk know how to put the nail on the head regarding my arguments against the silly iPad.

The greatest thing I heard about the iPad was the ease of accessing the internet, email, and apps from the store. A very consumption based philosophy. The Courier is built for research, creation, and content manipulation. Viva la Courier!

"Tablets aren't just about content consumption. The Courier UI shows a lot of interaction between the user and the device for content creation. While designers are the example shown, Courier appears optimized for researching, note taking, journaling and other tasks that might require a combination of different media types interacting.

So I have decided this year's new exercise is going to be that damn treadmill at the gym. A bit of apprehension when I got on.. a bit of confusion of what buttons to push.. but once I got going it wasn't too bad.. in fact after the first 1/10th of a mile I got over the initial hump and into a decent groove... I opted to power walk this one.. 22 minutes for a mile. Not a bad start.... it's has to being somewhere. The only issue would be when I got off it felt lie my body was still moving though I was standing still. Some sort of displacement dealio. It wore off after I got a drink of water and walked to Bubbie.

After I get my groove with this power walking it will be time to kick the pace up.

2010.04.09 (10:00): Bwahaha.. Good Will.. GONE!

Category: Work
Posted by: modi123
So GoodWill was confirmed to have been let go as a contractor for us. My sneaky suspicions may have played a part. Damn weirdo burning cds of our software keys and programs. I hope they take his ass to court for his illegal use of our licensing.

Side note - I think I have hammered out our design for the flying machine. I just need to review it with Management.

Damn.. right on Art of Manliness! This article "Modern Maturity: Create More, Consume Less".

I have been attempting to get a friend to realize this for years now.

I am trying to figure out why we are listening to Jefe at all regarding how CB is handled from now and into the future. Really.. she makes random sweeping changes to straight forward fixes to address things the rest of the system can't handle.

Okay.. follow me on this one. We have similar data in two different databases. There is an instance where if a user creates a cost code in database A, doesn't click the "refresh" on the budget screen, and then the cost code list in database B doesn't know there is something new from database A. The users type the new cost code number on the fly in our budget screen. The system treats it as a new cost code on *that* side.. gives it a default type (the user over looked keeping it the same).. then saves. A synch process is kicked off, and the original type information in the database A is over written.. hell breaks loose.

Sticks is working on the fix. Wonderful. He "finds" the solution (though that was written by me in the work request), and I suggest the solution is if we save in the new cost code screen refresh the list of cost codes in the budget screen. Bam! Easy cheesey..

Except.. EXCEPT... jefe gets involved...

2010.04.05 (12:55): Folks who rock..

Category: General
Posted by: modi123
Do you know who rocks? Sophia John - the programming director for 89.7 The River. After donating my dollars to the phone-a-thon I missed the announcement for the winner of the Stirr concert tickets (I was at a super exclusive and awesome legal lunch at the time). No worries I figured they would announce the winners again. Nope.. they were so busy getting the last of their 100k raised for tower rental. I don't think I won the Blink182 guitar (awww shucks, right?), but I was more concerned about the trip to vegas and the Nirvana autograph.

With not really an option on the website to view who won what - or more specifically if *I* won something - I sent her an email Sunday morning. An hour later she responded! Wow! I would have figured an email in the next four days or something since she must be terribly busy. Nope. Then I get back from lunch today with an email from her about who one the Vegas trip (not me). Again, I am very impressed.

Rock on The River.. rock on.

2010.04.02 (14:59): New jobbie job?

Wow.. so the amount of seething anger from our "cost of living increase" is palpable. I feel like a sucker or a chump for working so many late hours for as little as I got. Ug. Though is there even anything out there?

2010.04.02 (10:19): Easter schmammering?

Category: General
Posted by: modi123
I was cordially invited to L1's Easter celebration this year. It will be between two and when ever. If I remember right this was the party last year that had a Cara and a GT wrestling in the lawn at three am. The one Mattie only had about two hours of sleep between work and what not. Drunken awesomeness appears to be par for the course!

I shall go and see what's up.

(I think this means I am finally part of the *in* crowd, right?)

2010.04.01 (13:46): Well shucks..

Well the new break down..

The CEL is from a solenoid value in my evaporator emission system is corroded... that's about $191 or so. It's really not hurting much, but the CEL light will be on until it's fixed. So not doing that.

The spark plugs are showing age.. $141.. and that's probably why the acceleration on Bubbi's a bit slow. Not really a problem since I have given up street racing.. so not doing that.

The fix today is the radiator about shot. I knew it was coming down to this over the course of the winter, but frankly didn't want it to be true. Cest la vie. That's about four hundred. Doing that..

They said oddly - with those few areas everything else looks as great as it can be. So that's good.. long live Bubbi.

So.. it looks like I will be checking into doing the valve myself or not doing it at all.. scraping some cash for tires... eventually. Bypassing any hand gun and conceal and carry permit purchasing...

2010.04.01 (10:09): The wallet-ache continues..

Category: General
Posted by: modi123
Minor background.. Tuesday coming home Bubbi's check engine light came on.. then went of... she smelled partially of burning coolant. Mkay.

Wednesday going to work was fine.. a bit sluggish on acceleration but nothing to be overly concerned. Coming home there was a bit more burning coolant smell and the check engine light came on, went off, and then came back on to stay on. Fuck. .shit.. really?

So today we are back at the shop hoping this is something minor like belts and hoses and not something catastrophic or expensive.

Thank god I didn't go all wacky and buy a new wacom tablet, a flip camcorder, or a handgun as I was planning on doing.

FML as the kids say..
