Cars, water, skyline

I must confess - I missed the first four minutes due to catching up on the Fringe episode from last night. I am certain that while those four minutes set the tone for tonight they were far from needed.

The over arching thrust of this episode was "omg! starting a relationship is difficult" with an alternate title "o noes! men and women flirt and things become complicated because no one wants to directly address things". Shocking really.

The minor themes were:
- "Alpha male/Gym Rat: he's actually here and talks"
- "Diva bitch: yup I have huge hooters and am not used to people not throwing themselves at me"
- "America: you will love post-op-tranie fannie and crotch shots"
- "Ryan: My songs are funny and short but probably not record material yet".
- "Chet: I swing on Ryan's nuts.. but I am totally not gay for him".

Let's get the big issue out of the way: relationships. It turns out that Katelynn's boyfriend hasn't called or emailed her since she got to Brooklyn. She's super lonely. Super needy for comfort. She gets bombed at a club and starts grinding on chicks, *gratuitous zoom in/zoom out crotch shot* (GZI/O:CS), grinding on guys, *gratuitous zoom in/zoom out ass shot* (GZI/O:AS), making out with both, *GZI/O:CS + GZI/O:AS* (repeat ten times), and then endups up fairly drunk in her bed complaining to Diva-bitch over her boyfriend that doesn't call her. Diva-bitch cannot even take off her eye mask to have this discussion which I initially took for rude but then realized would I would probably do the same.

This all was interwoven into Diva bitch's attempt to get in the pants of the GymRat. Yes.. let me back up - Gymrat surfaced from lat machine to engage the group. Diva, in an awesome third grade moment, was showing him her "friends chart/thermometer" that broke down each stage of their friendship and when he (more like she) broke barriers (touching, sleeping together, etc) this Homeland Security style chart will progress it. Oh brother. GymRat was amused by it, but didn't take the bait. Diva then complains that he is sending mixed signals and doesn't like it. She wants him to walk straight. Gymrat, in a fit of stellar bro-ttitude, declares that hugs from him are not flirting and are not harmful. Like a typical woman Diva disagrees.

Another stellar move by GymRat is he brings a friend over to the house who lives in New york, is a model, and super hot. Well played sir. Diva was putting on her best and most bright red outfit on when this chickie came over. Ha! With some clever editing MTV spliced in a snippet of Diva going "I am not the jealous type" when clearly she is. End game is this friend of GymRats was being hit on my Chet and she crushed his pastey dreams. So it goes dude.

on a side note - GymRat is shaping up to be a decent guy. With another episode or two of him actually participating in life at the house I can fully affirm or deny that claim. Random memory - Diva was pissed that GymRat has a girlfriend at home (who is also a model) when he clearly stated, under oath in the hot tub the first night, that he was single. Oh blessed purgory.

Enough about those two twits. Ryan, Baya, and Chet tromped off to some music company that may or may not be owned by MTV/viacom. Each had their own dream jobs and it played out as such. Chet wants to report on musicians. This company said they would set up him with a blog, some webspace, and people to talk with when the come into town. Go high school journalism!

Baya wants to be a dj. what?! Wait? Huh? I thought dance was her passion. Her stock rose about 20% in my book! This company set her up with a semi mixing gig at some bar.. She was learning as she went and I'll be damned if she doesn't look hot with dj cans on her head! Side note - there was an instance where she was lying on someone's bed - wow.. what a nice ass lady! I am now forced with justifying who is first - Baya or Sarah and frankly I think Baya edges out a wee bit.

Bringing us back to the initial deviation (and away from the cuteness of Baya) it was Ryan's turn to get handed down something from on high. The company set him up to meet one of their music men (named Machine - creepy "8mm" reference guys). Yeppie. All three go back down the golden path and gush about how awesome tomorrow is going to be.

Ryan was super psyched for his semi audition, but was clearly putting more assumptions on MTV's desire to sign him ot a record. Ryan - I love the guy - but really. His songs are funny, short, and to the point (be it about tampons, Iraq, or what ever), but they are geared towards "getting some pussy" and not towards "getting me a platinum record". It's a good hobby for him but he goofs around with music.

On the way to Machine's joint chet was the ever so annoying gay side kick. Every two minutes "you are awesome ryan!", " you will totally rock this", and on with a never ending stream of platitudes and accolades. Ryan was clearly getting a bit wierded out by this but pushed it off. In the studio they meet with Machine who asks him about Iraq and other things. Not a bad first interview. Then Machine asks Ryan to play him a song. Ryan asks Chet what he should play. Wtf!? Ryan you moron you should have this shit planned out in advance. Chet offers up the Tampon song which pretty much sums up Ryan's seriousness about it. Letting your gay/metro puppy dog chose a song is just beyond me. Machine informs Ryan that while he has great talent he is not at Machine's level of preparedness and wishes Ryan luck forming a small cult following of with his friends. Machine clearly snapped shut that area and happily strolled to the bank with whatever check MTV threw at him for his time. So it goes.

Back at home Baya seems to be the only one interested in ryan's gig, to which Ryan brushed it off as 'nothing' and was editing his massive novel. Bad signs there lady. Baya should have done the cavalier thing and offered him a conciliatory handy.
Sad day. Somewhere along the lines Baya starts complaining about how Ryan reminds her of her friends, they are flirting an obsessive amount, and it culminates in a drunken club scene where ryan tells Baya he has a girlfriend and she slaps him. Baya runs to Diva bitch for advice and it sounds like they are conspiring to get her hooked up with ryan. Good job Baya.

Over all it was a good episode. It is best summed up by Katelynn taking some guy home to meet the crew (she seemed to have spent some time with him), but she is confused about telling him her situation and I believe ultimately decides not to. She ends up in tears over her quasi boyfriend at home, the desire to be with someone here, and nothing really is accomplished. Well summed up with that and Baya’s butt. Mmmm..
