2013.07.16 (15:47): Yogging; time to try again?

I think I might try and start up a yogging routine, ya know? I believe it's a little over a mile from my door, out of my apartment complex, around the loop next to the fancy neighborhood, and back to my door.

There are a few things working against me..
1 - shoes. Though I am not sure how much that really really matters in this slow paced yog.
2 - general embarrassment of being gawked at my dbag neighbors.
3 - a few years of wrong conditioning with sled presses, infrequent tredmilling, and calf raises.

Stupid TheOatmeal for making me think more about.

We'll see.

Yeah.. derp to me on not looking at the time when I traipsed off to the gym. Shit I got out of there about five after midnight.

As it was - even with my distracted dawdling - probably the most successful, and by extension the least self loathing, evening. Up to four sets of eight with 50lbs on the parallel shoulder press, 120lb on the up right row.. four or five sets of eight on at 290 on the cable row.. 48lb (or #18) on the cable twist.. four sets of fifteen on the sled press (still the same five plates a side).. four sets of fifteen at 300lb on the calf raises and.. ding-ding-ding.. my cardio is more than half jog for a mile and no wheezing/gasping for air.. at this rate, if I keep up my jogging, and might go back to the mile and a half.

2012.10.05 (21:46): Grr.. stupid cold weather...

I shouldn't have to have all my motivation for the gym sucked out because we are hitting the cold season. Ugh. Stupid near freezing degrees..

I just tried out parallel grip upright shoulder presses - woooh.. wow. I wasn't sure about it until I tried 50's - not hard to pick up and carry around but damn hard to press on.. so I scaled it back to 35's and was able to keep a good form and do four sets of eight. Yeah a whole new range of motion from the usual sit down row (and vertical row). Me likey.

Taking some advice from TwinMuscleWorkout I am going to plateau my weight increases for a bit and increase sets. So the new routine is upright row at 290, four sets of eight - shooting for five sets. Vertical row is now 100lb, four sets of ten.. sled press - the usual five plates a side for four sets (shooting for five).. and this is a real piece of advice from TMW - push with the heel. Calf raises at 300lbs for four sets shooting for five.. and a mile and a half cardio run/jog/walk (at an incline).

I have to say my traps are getting some bulk. Yeppie for results!

290 on the low row was better.
300 on the calf raises for four sets of 15.
Cable twists at 47.5lb. Three sets of 10.
Five plates a side for sled press... four sets of fifteen.
new exercise with an up right row. Gett'n my form down with 70lb got three sets of ten. Yeah that will be bumped up by a lot. Probably flip to a bar and weights verses the cable machine.
Cardio was ten minutes on the bike with thirty minutes on the treadmill.

Good stuff.

I finally hit 290 on the up right row! The first set was easy.. the second and third my body caught on to the ruse - my cunning attempt to trick it - and started to protest. What evs.. It wasn't that long ago when I was sub 100lb...

point to me!

2012.06.01 (09:38): Hai 280!

After a shift of tactics with my up right row I decided to go back to the tried and true method of 'do more'. I scaled back to 260, but now I am back to 280. Yeppie!

Man.. I need more sleep after I spend an hour and so picking things up and putting them down again. Running on five hours of sleep isn't good and I think I ma more sore because of it. Drat it all!

Hmmm.. I just hit 280 with my upright row. Twenty more pounds and I will max out the machine. I guess I better switch focus to insane number of reps not insane mass of what I pick and up and put down again.

Side note - integrating the cable twist is key.

Okay.. this is starting to freak me out a bit...

After switching to a more salad centric lunch (by that I mean I will opt for the premade salads at work for lunch more so than a burger and fries or a tasty ruben) I noticed they days I have a salad I tend to maintain a decent level of energy during the rest of the afternoon versus stumbling out of work on days I don't. It's odd.. I catch myself driving home and thinking "damn.. I don't feel too bad today!". WTF.. does this mean salads and a bit of chicken in said greens is a good thing for me?

The second oddity is I hit the gym today (the 11ish hour day yesterday killed my desire to do much of anything besides watch Fringe back episodes)... and mounted that damn treadmill again. This time a bit faster pace... so my mile I power walked took about nineteen minutes.. now get this.. I get off it.. right myself from the treadmill-vertigo and feel good... not great but good. wtf on this shit as well. Damn extended cardio is *good* for me?!
