07/07: On the nature of things...
Things.. things the magical nondescript noun.
The more you eat the more you frown.
...
Ah.. yeah.. my poetry muse just left.
Wow... today has just been a trying day at work. Maybe not for me, but for DK for sure.
Yesterday evening I was tasked with looking into moving everything related to CB to our TRAINING database from our QA database. On face not a problem except TRAINING hasn't been updated in about six months. Yeah.. that's bad. All sorts of shit depends on other shit and that shit needs to be updated. Basically a big steamy load.
To confound the problem I was required to use this Difference-tool which was fine except there's a learning curve. From there we were missing one the DBAs, and it seemed no one told them we needed this at 3pm except for when I sent the email at 1pm.
Hmm.
The DBAs obviously didn't like this last minute massive move so they fussed to me. I fussed up to DK. DK called the DBAs back as I was passing on the fuss and demanded "what ever it takes".
Wow. That's authority.
The DBAs were semi obliging with just removing the block requiring a roll-in and DK and I went to town dropping tables, adding tables, and modifying tables.
Realizing there was one older database one server and the newer one was else where we had to scramble again. Then came the let's import five hundred or so stored procedures.
Then we waited.
And waited.
DK paced back to my office every so often so ask how far we were. It was always about "twenty-five less than before".
After a few bumps we finally get the first chunk done. Then we start the second chunk.. and wait some more.
Fifty minutes post the "deadline" we are now trying to have people drop what they are doing and test. Aww shit, one of the DB edit tools missed all the permissions. Are you f'n kidding me? Another db call and we are back in business - well as much as we can for having janked security.
*sigh*
On the plus side my blog/website is a year and two weeks old. Congrats to me.
Oh and DK was not pleased about my field trip out to the field. So displeased. Huzzah! How much fun!
