07/04: April 1st to Today
Recap of:
Wed 2009-04-01 to Tues 2009-04-07
Side note - Anders had his son in the wee hours of the morning April 3rd. Go Steen go!
Wednesday is usually my second quiet day of the week. The usual family dinner, but no drinking or much else. I tend to hit up the gym in the evenings or push that off to Thursday.
Regardless I was sprawled on my futon watching the Pedro Zamora docudrama on MTV then the season finale of Realworld Brooklyn. I mused at the initial observations of the cast and was developing an angry spot for a few of the broads on the show.
I refused to watch hour long 'reunion' after the episode - figuring that much TV was going to kill me. I was halfway to my bed to get some drawing done when my phone startled me. Hmm.. a text from a questionable number. Oh, it's just Hawaii. Ha. There were some minor plans of hitting up the 'Box in short order and it was asked if I am going to show up or not.
Sure. Why not? My liver groaned with displeasure. I told it to mind its own business and threw on what ever pair of jeans were at the top of the floor-drobe. It was a nice night so I opted for sandles over birthday-chuck-ts. Meh. I disappeared into the night with the intention of a small bar night.
I get up to the Skyybox and was pleasantly surprised to see Whit and Margie at the bar as well! Yeppie! I find a seat between Margie and Michelle, and get my first of (at the time) three beers I was going to have that night. whoops. It turns out that idea went out the window. The night wore on, Michelle regaled us of stories of what life on the island is outside of touristy spots. Spooky, but enlightening. The evening became a bit tense when both of the ladies were bristling over some inane comment. Tut-tut; be nice! You're family!
I finally decided to leave at midnight - thoroughly beat and worn out.
I was warned Friday will be the day of days for drinking, and to arm myself.
Cool!
Thursday went by with little to no activity. A quiet day at work and an equally quiet trip to the gym in the evening. The weather was still nice so I was happy.
Friday was pretty good. I was peppy from not being hung over. Shockingly sobrity may be a good thing on occasion. I may have to test this theory. Work went by at a crawl; ug - stupid elusive problem!
I hit up the last fish fry of the lent season at Mary our queen. Not bad. I should have ate more, but frankly I didn't care. I figured I would eat something later on. Nope. That'll bite you in the ass any time.
I was getting spotty cellphone reception and cursed the bomb shelter-esque building I was in. thankfully my sister found me in line and showed me to where I was supposed to be at. Woot. I was a bit preoccupied with the wishful thinking of winning some things from 89.7 the river for donating during their yearly drive... nope.. I didn't get jack squat. booooooo!
I left the fish fry to get myself cleaned up. You would be amazed at how badly the smell of fish and oil sticks to the human body. On the way home I got the evening sketched out through back channel communications, and expedited my activities so I could rendezvous people at the 'Box.
The 'Box was suspiciously busy. I had to wedge my slender figure between Michelle and Stacey. After a surprise visit by Carlos (I was not going to respond to a text that confused there, they're, their) we were out into the dusk to the Island.
The only major kink in the plan was the rest of the group (Lori #1, Brad, GT, etc) were supposed to meet us down there. The plan was foiled by excessive painting of L1's rooms. I spent the rest of the evening sending nonsensical text messages of things occurring on specific terms. I am certain they were confused as non other.
The Island was quite fun. I noticed there were large ships on the bar's thatch roof. I have never seen them before and thought they were new. Nope - they've been there since the dawn of time - I just had tunnel vision coming into the joint. Strange.
Miss Whit was already at the bar eating chicken strips (heathen - it's lent!). We retired to a table in the back corner, and occasional one of the group would peel off to sing songs. Steve (the elusive hedge) was paparazzied in the car with his smoking hot girl friend by Michelle and Whit. The impromptu stealth mission yielded some damn funny pictures.
The evening wore on and people became a more hammered. There were crayon writing on foreheads (Whit got the Scarlet Letter 'A' on her head - I had to tip my glass to Mr. Hawthorne for that one). Michelle and Margie sang duets which was nice to see them enjoying each other's company while Hawaii was in town. No one likes family feuds.
Carlos eventually staggered in from the Blue October concert, and was promptly left to hitch a ride back to the skyybox's parking lot with everyone else in my car. Quite amusing.
Over all the evening was a smashing success fueled by a preternatural euphoria that can only come from being high on life, the joys of having long lost compatriots back together under one (bar) roof, and a few pitchers of beer.
In celebration I decided the fish consumed earlier was having difficulties agreeing with the beer and promptly puked when I got home.
Over all - a giant success.
Saturday went by quietly. Bruce opted to buy a PS3, and with some urging Metal Gear 4. He hasn't stopped calling me every night to inform me how damn good the game is. I assure him I know.
Sunday was cold and snowy. I am starting to believe this is the work of 'He Who Walks Behind the Rows' and his displeasure that one of his who fled to Hawaii is back. If to lend this credence the weather was great today.
Monday was a drag. Fixing issues on my old system that's going to version 3.0... trying to track down this damn bug from Friday and Saturday... and generally keeping up on the internet. The evening was filled with a good episode of Heroes, a 30 minute call with Tad regarding some gangster game for the iGay-Phone, and then off to the 'Box for Monday night man date.
Lucky seemed excited more than usual to see me. Perhaps because she had both front window blinds up and could watch my every move from down the street. Thankfully she has gotten over peeing herself when she sees me. That was embarrassing.
I snatched Travis and off into the night we went. Michelle eventually met up with us for her last horrah, and that was filled with more retelling of tales to new ears, and her trying to recollect Mattie. On an aside Mattie said his woman really loved the 'Average American Male' book I got him for his birthday the week previous. (God was that only last week?) It seems it got her frisky. I left it at that.
As suddenly as she appeared Michelle had to go and get packed for the second leg of her trip. Quite sad and sudden if you ask me, but hell it was good seeing her. I guess Margie and her did not have a decent 'good bye', but I secretly think that's Margie being a hard ass. I hope Travis got his Michelle time in - lord knows it only happens once ever two years.
On an aside it seems the magical jesus phone had one good use - Travis was able to pull up the picture of Brumm and Wife with Michelle at her place of employment from a year ago. How cute.
Now it's Tuesday and I am left here writing this absurdly long blog post listening to the top 18 karokee hits we have sung and resung over the years.
"Ooooh... half way there... oohhh living on a prayer.. "
