2009.06.30 (17:33): Things in motion..

A buddy of mine left a voice mail for me while I was in a meeting today. It seems after his second try he finally got into med school. Congrats is in order (as soon as I can get a minute to call him).

I am a bit confused on the time line.

He's 28 now.
+4 years for school-school.
+4 years for residency
+8ish years for specialization (neruo-whatcha-mah-hooze-it).

That's a lot of time. Here's a salute to his hopeful dedication to sticking with it for that long. I mean a BS in Chemistry and a JD took about seven years to get - what's another sixteen?

This of course presents an interesting option. A second mutual friend has been daydreaming of buying a house and having PreMed and I rent space from him. Hmm... the monetary saving versus living in the fortress of solitude. I'll see what the "savings" might be and weigh that against my enjoyable rut of being by myself. I have a funny feeling someone's going to get hurt feelings.

In other news I am somewhat shocked at that my biggest fan had not seen my presence on the not-myspace social network. I guess my BiggestFan doesn't check my Attorney's profile often enough.

2009.06.29 (15:50): Credit card fraud..

I had the joy of finding my Visa check card being declined Sunday. Strange. After a talk with my bank it seems some ass hat took my card number (through what means I am unsure) and spent 113.00 at Randalls is Houston on Saturday.

How annoying.

Now it's the seven to ten business day wait to get a new one, and I need to comb through my billing to make sure nothing else cropped up uncaught or known.

I think the rep was amazed how easy I took the whole thing - I tried to tell them I used to do this (the credit card fraud tracking) in a past life with First Data. The whole process is old hat, but no less annoying it happened to me.

2009.06.25 (20:50): God Said, Ha!

Wow.. I just watched the last half of "God Said, HA!" - a one woman monologue by Julia Sweeney about the time surrounding her brother getting cancer.

That was freaking amazing. Well thought out, good choice of set and movement, funny jokes inside the difficult time, and a nice insight into someone else's life.

I would highly suggest watching it when you catch it on Showtime or one of those movie channels. Hell rent the damn thing if you can find it.

Thank you 89.7 the River and your 411 on the music!

1. Courtney Love's new CD is due out the end of this year (Already knew that)
2. It is is going to be under the band Hole and not a solo album.
3. Billy Corrigan, of Smashing Pumpkins fame, helped out with the cd.
4. C.Love is getting shit ironed out for a Hole tour next year.

My OMG?! WTF?!!11! Factor took an exponential increase from 1-4.

I hope the tour is somewhere near - there will be no doubt that I am going.

*squeeeeee!*

2009.06.15 (15:09): Better than Ezra - fo' sho'...

Category: General

June 3rd (that would be a Wednesday) I hiked my ass down the Whiskey Roadhouse to see Better than Ezra. I was a bit unsure how this was supposed to go down - I circled the casino grounds looking for any freaking sign that would indicate this is where you would enter to see a concert. No - every damn entrance was filled with shuffling elderly coming with their meager savings or going with the hollow desire to return with more pittance to offer.

Okay dokey fans out there, here's the tale of the Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction tour. May 27-28, 2009.

It's a bit long, and of course it is mine.

No reprinting without consent from me.

It was decided today we had one chance to get our old desk back before they are pitched. The party line was we are getting NEW and UPGRADED furniture in some nebulous future time (two weeks to four months). If any of us were unhappy with the picnic tables then certainly we should speak up now and get our old desk.

I of course said "sure I be happy with my old desk". Whoops. That was an interesting mistake. I was then handed a dolly, the key to some basement room that served probably as the asshole of my building, and told to go get it. Hmm. Mkay. I thought I wasn't allowed to life crap since I'm not union? I also thought I wasn't supposed to disassemble my computer with out pc support present? Oh those rules only apply on other cases? Wonderful.

Off I go down the service elevator having joyous amount of fun stopping in between levels and what not.

It was back UP four floors to get a screw driver - my old desk was wrapped in duct tape, and I found a moderately roomier one. The only issue is the old metal tracks for a keyboard tray. A bit of sweat and nausea (from the 100 degree humid mild-dewy-smelling room) I threw the tracks and screws across the room, and slapped this bastard desk on my dolly. Well technically I didn't - two other guys getting desks were concerned that I wouldn't be able to do it and hung around to help. They loaded it up, navigated the hallways, up the service elevator, and dropped it ten feet from my door.

How nice. Less of the labor for me.

End game is now I have a desk-desk.. my pc nestled between the wall (left), the desk(right), a foot clearance to the portable wall (back), and a UPS (uninterpretable power supply) on top of my case. Wonderful. At least I am not kicking the wall now, just the chunk of wood under my desk.

2009.06.03 (10:58): The Move..

Category: Work
Posted by: modi123
We had this impending "move" hanging above our heads for a few weeks now (office swap).. the issue being we can cram a few more people in offices (I will be sharing an office with two other guys), and we needed an upgrade in furniture (as opposed to using the desks left behind by the previous tenets). Fair enough.

The reasoning was our "temporary location" has been temporary for two years and it's about time to do something. I just saw what's going on and my god I think we are getting long fold out card tables. Yeah our upgrade puts us at "bingo hall" status.

Seriously I wonder what the hell my company is doing some days.

If it wasn't bad enough I stopped doing work at 10.30pm last night, drug my ass to work today, and now have to deal with this bullshit? There might be words exchanged with someone today.
