2011.09.30 (12:05): Music R Funny..
Oh zune.. you crack me up. The random 'Abstinence' track from Clerks II where Randal is talking to Elias about trusting him more. Elias tells Randal that he can't have sex with Myra because of Pillow Pants... a little troll that lives in her hooh-hah. The next second later J.Cash comes on with his cover of Soundgarden's 'Rusty Cage'. Yeah I snorted some Mountain (Mtn) Dew on that one.
Side note I think I might flip my site to Drupal. I spent from about 7pm to midnight futzing with the new version 7 on my test machine. A bit of a pain in the ass to set up, but it could be fun. Any disagreements?
The conversion factor between my current set up and drupal might be interesting. I need to draft a production conversion release plan!

2011.09.29 (11:25): Tevatron
Sad.. Fermilab's closing down the Tevatron Friday. You know the collider discovered the last quark in the Standard Model. I would almost lift my ban on Chicago to go take a tour. That might be an interesting weekend.
A site with pictures of the Tevatron.

2011.09.27 (21:00): A breakdown of mathematical proportions.
True story, I was taking a walk about from a few episodes of the Big Bang Theory (thank you Fox and TBS for catching me up on four seasons at warp factor four) because I had a few neighbors on the benches.
One was our resident pimp and the other was a short man with a peculiar dialect of urban slang talking with the neighbor upstairs about car repair. The metropolitan fellow asked the chap upstairs for help on his math. If he (the fellow) had a v6 how much would the new valves be. The guy replied "well at forty bucks a pop (and you'll need six of them) that's about... ah.. hmm" then the fellow on the bench replied "about 180? Yeah that's way less than the two hundred". Upstairs man was doing the addition out loud and "about two-forty" to which the fellow replied "no, that's like two hundred!". This banter went back and for for numbers between 180 to 230. Eventually it was passed that what ever the amount the fellows old mechanic would have done it for a flat hundo.
Interesting.

2011.09.27 (10:56): Lab-a-licious coat!
Ha-cha-cha-cha... I am still on the fence about this lab coat. I figured I would sleep on the idea (more like pass out on it but who's measuring the rum?) and this morning I am still highly interested but trying to find a decent reason to *NOT* do this. I mean I found a three inch Global Dynamics patch I can totally iron on to it when I get it... assuming I have an iron. I am certain Pops does.
When I get my lab coat then maybe the legal lunch folk will respect me and welcome me as their peer.... hmm.. though I would want to not get Romeoes.. er.. I mean Fernandos sauce on my coat of science!
Right now it's good 63-37 split (with a 2% variance) leaning towards getting it.

2011.09.24 (20:49): Damn.. about time..
I finally sat down to multithread my damn 'personal assistant' app. This means when it loads up the GUI pops up right away and the call out to google to parse the weather data occurs on it's own. Stupid me for making it in WCF. Ugh. Thank the Bill Gates for Threading.Tasks though.
Unfortunately that took too much of my time for the evening so my weekly comic book list fetcher will be another day. Probably tomorrow when I am nice and hung over.
Ah.. 8.30 Saturday evenings ...

2011.09.24 (13:56): Questionable CL deals..
After some hemming and hawing I picked up another 4gb of RAM from a dude on craigslist. Pull out one 1gb stick, pump in the two 2gb sticks and now I am at 7168mb. So far so good. My box is definitely not thrashing like it used to on Fallout New Vegas or much of anything. Where I would expect the hard drive to spin up it's quiet.
The guy himself was a bit... odd. I would have pegged him for a chi-mo, but oh well.
Let's see how Windows8 runs in Virtualbox now!

2011.09.14 (11:13): Third Roman Missal..
In a fit of changing up my routines I headed out last night to SVdP for an overview of the new implementation of the Third Roman Missal. I assume people like The Doctor and my Lawyer's wife are well versed in the going ons come this Advent of 2011.
The meeting was quite packed - mostly with seniors (out at 7pm to 9pm on a Tuesday night?! That's when the thugs come out!) and folks about mid 50's. A smattering of other younger-ish folk, but once again I am the youngest guy there by fifteen-plus years. Good times.
A Father Roc O'Connor from Creighton was there to talk about what was going on. He's a crazy smart guy on catholic history and was able to shed some light on the mass of changes (ya like that pun there? "mass".. heh).

2011.09.12 (13:05): Sept 23 - FRINGE!
I squealed like a school girl last night when I saw the teaser commercial for Fringe! *squeeeeeeeeeeeeee!* I have to keep it together for one more Friday and them BAM! Friday September 23 my ass is watch'n me some Fringe baby!
2011.09.08 (23:44): SCIENCE! part 2.
I was over at my sister's place for dinner tonight. My niece was a bit unsure how this giant of person was, but after a while she was able to give me books, climb up the couch and sit on my lap, and whisper at various pictures "puppy". Oddly the squirrel outside was also "puppy".
When she was a bit leery about my presence in the house my damn computer scientist brain took over and attempted to map and analyze her movements. Why did she do this and not that? Why did she walk up to my knee cap and stare at it to only peek up vertically at me? I am certain with more observation I could map out a basic interaction map for her brain. Start now on the ground floor before things become too complex!
After that fun evening I snagged a foursome of AA batteries I set off tonight to do more science. I was able to successfully wire up my BASIC Stamp Board, feed it commands from my PC via USB, and with two resisters I was able to get two LEDs to turn on, off, and pulse at various speeds.
SCIENCE!
Tomorrow I shall see about calibrating those servos and get some wheel action going.

I am a moderator on dream in code! eeek!
2011.09.02 (15:20): Boe-bot in route!
I found a guy on hardforum.com selling a boe-bot kit for uber cheap. It was either that or drop a hundo or so on Fez Panda II boards and bots. It won out that the guy as laid up from neck surgery and honestly I should start at about 'neyah level, and not 'naw level. I figure it's a natural progression in any shut-in alcoholic programmer with poor self image and rage in his heart: robots! Yes... I shall make an army of metal ones to do my bidding and take over the world! Muahahahaha!
I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head.
