2011.08.31 (22:48): Real Legal Lunch..
It was nice to be back in the swing of things and that the group w0w'er snagged my lunch. The only thing amiss was I was not invited to the house warming bbq at the Burrito Thief's new (but old) premarital house. Sad. I was going to hook up the why-fies...
2011.08.30 (18:39): Phase 2 of the financial plan - done.
I threw up in my mouth a little bit. I am stepping far out of my comfort zone, financially, and just paid off my credit card with the goal of swinging that payment to my car. I'll take a hit in the savings, but in theory it should work out... in theory.
Obama better not fuck this up for me.

2011.08.25 (10:21): CmdrTaco - gives up the reins..
Screw Steve Jobs quitting - Cmdrtaco is stepping down as the head of slashdot! ./ started in 1997 and went through lord knows how many name changes. When I first signed in - what 2000? 2001? I was able to snag a "middle of the pack" id number - 750470 isn't bad! Though I will confess when they were auctioning off uber low ranking numbers I felt the twitch to bid. Hmmm.. upgrade from a six digit to a four or three... or god forbid two! Eeek! But no.. that would have been silly... and cheating.
Either way I have been a loyal slashdot reader over the years. A fist full of stories submitted with a scan few accepted. Heh.. good karma and a a few up voted posts. A good roll as a fringe user. I was always spooked by the folks uber into it. I mean the 'anti-slashdot' page built to "expose the corruption" from the mods is amazing. I guess everyone needs a hobby. Hell I even organizing Omaha's Slashdot-10 year-party. What a damn fine institution cmdrtaco built from those wee college days.

2011.08.24 (10:30): Sad - digital associate gone..
http://www.dreamincode.net/forums/user/266470-christoph/
It's odd - if you are part of an online community for so long (three years is a long time) and you end up collaborating with people, exchanging ideas, and at some level know the person. It was just announced that this guy of DreamInCode passed away from lung complications. I feel bad that this online voice is silenced. Suckie. Never physically met the person nor swilled a beer with him, but we conversed on programming and other crap infrequently. Hopefully when I kick the bucket someone can notify the DIC board I am gone so they can hold an online wake or something. heh..

2011.08.24 (10:06): Legal Lunch revisited...
Man I am so stoked for legal lunch beta today! The sense of community and cross career sharing from OPD, Sarpy County public defenders, and private lawyers that make up my bestest legal associates is great. It's been a while, but long over due. A typical lunch involves some trendy location where the first hour is spend sipping drinks and catching up on family lives and achievements. The second hour is dining on scrumptious food with light talk regarding work, and the last hour is trouble shooting concerns and gathering various input on difficulties we each are facing. I don't know how many legal foibles I have avoided with the combined information from Pam and Dan the Cops, Joslyn, Trevor, and Wayne the Public Defenders, and Johansen the Legal Suit. Great people. It's also awesome that a majority are in the same monthly book club too! Man, I wish I knew MORE legal people.
Kidding. No, I should hook up with legal lunch sometime. The new gig makes it a bit difficult with time and the absurd driving distances.

2011.08.19 (11:05): Picking through the carcass...
Oh Borders - I finally sacked up enough to wander over to your Maple store last night to see the sad shape you are in. Actually - not too bad. I guess when you warehouses are disgorging books everyone keeps up a healthy stock. I was a bit disappointed on a few books, but was pleasantly surprised to find 'Startship Troopers' there. Snatch! I was looking at a random pick up 'The Goblin Corps', but opted to pick up a cheap OpenGL book.
I say the mood was something near a terse garage sale. People attempting to act with some dignity, but were pawing through merch like drug addled chimpanzees. Fore the most part everything was near the appropriate sections, but you would find books way out of their comfort zone; discarded when their potential owner found something better to get on sale. Right now I think the prices are on par with Amazon. DVDs included. I might go back when the sales become more cutting and snag some math books in hopes of a cheap Android book.
On the furniture on sale - yeah I would pass. My associate was looking at the brown couch for two-hundo. I dissuaded him with "do you know how many sweaty and stinky asses have nestled into that couch and not moved for hours as they read books un-purchased? How much junior high stank, split coffee, and throw up potentially could be on there?". Yeah that was enough to pass and wipe his hands on something else. The safes were mildly interesting too bad I am short on cash.

It seems that one of my tri-weekly spam asshats takes about an hour and three minutes to crack my capatcha. It's odd that it takes an hour. If I beef up the number of questions I can push this out even farther.
I would like to know what brute force software they are using. Now I am curious!

2011.08.15 (00:35): 14th of August..
It's an interesting night where folks I hoped showed up did, and then I simultaneously didn't want them there. Fucking weird man. The answer is, for me, "no, it doesn't get better but you learn to adapt and build walls" poured out of my mouth to my genuine lack of surprise. I am not sure if that is the right answer, but after four years it is the only answer I can come up with outside of the perpetual "don't embarrass me in public" to wit I respond with psychological and emotional barriers. If you are a ghost among the populace then you can't embarrass anyone, right?
My mentoring skills kicked in at the nineteen year old level. Double-think of "I know we will never be together but I still put up the futile attempt" is a hard nut to crack.
... and Saturday Shell drove the front end of a car into the light pole.
Fun fun as we run and gun.

2011.08.13 (11:08): Exceptionally easy..
With the help of my trusty bro, about nine ceramic tiles, and a bit of luck I was able to coax Bubbi down to UPullit. It was a journey damned by the gods from the start. On ramp to Dodge at 150 I was already on the side of the road with a bit of smoke. It appears the muffler tape isn't so keen on touching catalytic converters. A leisurely stroll down Pacific was plagued with shifting tiles, hot exhaust, and the heel of my sandal started to melt on the tiles. Great. The last hump up the UPullit Drive was a bit concerning, but we were in, they asked what price I was quoted, four-fiddy pour out, and I was off with a check and my plates in hand.
Oddly sad.
Oh well that was an uncomfortable drive down there in terms of handling, acceleration, and a mildly burning foot.
She's not my problem any more!

2011.08.13 (08:14): Head exploding...
Four hours of sleep... check.
head ache.. check.
queasy.. check.
Might as well shuffle down to UPullit to hand off Bubbi. Phone calls every day for a solid five days for them to pick 'er up. No - they promise and fail. Now they dropped the price thirty bones FOR ME TO DRIVE HER THERE! They blame "prices change".
Derp de derp. I have a feeling I will be screwed with in the hour.
This is of course assuming Bubbi doesn't burst into flames and I don't die of CO2 on the way there.
Such is my life.

I probably should have avoided looking at my IRA. Good by six grand.
2011.08.10 (00:33): Reality checks suck...
Just say'n, the little stories and fiction created every day to get one through to the next day suck when reality comes to dial back that to zero.
Just say'n.
Just say'n.
2011.08.09 (20:44): Odd thoughts..
In the throws of a odd dream (akin to the TV show Alphas) I sort of woke up to toss around to find a better spot. In my half dreaming daze I wondered if the faces I see in my dreams of unknown people are folk who I have passed by on the streets or seen on TV, or did my brain generate and render those all by itself?
Odd. I spent my drive to and from work peering at faces seeing if I hit a deja-vu point. Maybe I'll come across someone from a dream. What if I came across someone I saw in a dream, but never have seen them in the real world until after the dream? That would be a mind fuck.
I really should try and get a handle on some lucid dreaming. Then again that might drive me more insane than socially acceptable.
Oh, and The Lawyer is a good bastard. Whining about the nature of shots and if he wanted one. He puts up a good argument, but is taken down by free booze.

2011.08.06 (16:51): Net from Bubbi's death...
About four-fifty.
2011.08.04 (09:09): Well what do ya know...
I just snagged a new title for Bubbi so I can turn around and send her "up state" with uPullit. A minor problem where the "lien release" was missing since I titled her back in aught-two. A ten minute phone call and a five minute wait bore the fruit of a faxed notarized release. Score... fourteen dollars later and a tense ten minutes at the counter while the DMV guy poked a key... looked at me.. poked two keys.. looked at me.. and I am now with title. I let loose a "whooah!" and jabbed a spot on the title. I said "actual" and had a number below it. I inquired with the gentleman if that was the original miles I picked Bubbi up for and he affirmed.
84,153.
Read that again. Eighty-four thousand, one hundred and fifty three miles. Holy shit! Bubbi is roughly at 210,000 now.
A quick estimate says I put 125,847 on her over the course of nine years. That's averaging about 13,983 a year, but I know in the last few years she wasn't racking that much up.
How damn informative.
Oh, the places you’ll go!
