2008.11.24 (10:52): Passive aggressive love from DK..

I am always amused how people operate at work. Take DK. Remeber he's the second in command (I guess after this morning's stand up meeting where Jefe claimed to be "done with CB" so that makes him the new Captain Stubing of this barnacle encrusted Love Boat we call CB).

Dk sends me an instant message a bit ago asking where such and such a class is called in remoting. Well that's an odd question I say to myself - he's in the code and he can look at it with his own two eyes! So I look at it and say "well it's not". Then like clock work he's at my door going into a long winded discussion that adapters are just wrapper data...blah..blah.. blah.. they should be in remoting.. blah..blah..blah.. I had to cut him off and said "I'll take care of it". I looked at it further and that class isn't even being used except in one small place. He damn well knew that too.

I am toying with the idea of shooting him an IM and saying "Hey - before you waste more time with this whole passive aggressive questioning just to assert your superiority above me just cut to the chase and say I missed this function". Though the ramifications of being called out on his consistant behavior would going badly for me so I shall remain silent on it. Fallout boy got a good chuckle from the exchange noting this is not an unnoticed behavior.

This is now day two of fixing the traumatic bugs DK introduced into my code. Mind you if I or Falloutboy checked in code this buggy our asses would be on the street, let alone the look we would get if we did and our only response would be "We expect everyone to fix up their own code".

Arg.

Regardless, now that I am thrashing around in my code, that was changed significantly by DK, I am reminded of the Bare Naked Ladies song 'Old Apartment'.

Why did you paint the walls?
Why did you clean the floor?
Why did you plaster over the hole I punched in the door?
This is where we used to live

Why did you keep the mousetrap?
Why did you keep the dishrack?
these things used to be mine
I guess they still are, I want them back

It is strange to wander around your code that you spent a year writing, rewriting, rewriting four more times (all rewrites because there was zero planning on the DK and Jefe's part and they capriciously changed the requirements), and then when someone else thrashes around it is all different but the same.

How annoying.

As our outsourcing team just was made aware.. if you have temporary incrementing numbers in a data set that are constrained to be unique for the love of god increment them negative! If you have more than one person inserting into an auto incrementing table in a database and you return the actual database unique number and that is part of your list of temporary number bad things happen.

Fallout boy and I were out discussing the annoyances of computed columns when on the way in we saw his old manager. It was a bit windy out, and the manager and I had to shout to get our minor greetings across. On the way in Falloutboy exclaims - " I have no idea what she said". He follows that up with "Well THAT'S why I can't get requirements! I cannot read lips!".*

*Jefe has a tendancy to trail off to a whisper during a talk.
